This modern wing chair has a lighter and more open expression that its historical ancestors. Considerations about construction and usefulness are what shaped this chairs form. For example the arm rests have been cut free from the seat, so the sitter can turn freely in the chair. The Papa bear chairs claws are made from pieces of wood - have a number of functions: they prevent the sitters hands from soiling the fabric when rising and hide the joinery beneath the fabric. A journalist was the first to claim the chair looked like a bear hugging the sitter from behind.  Anker Pedersen, who manufactured the chair, like the name so much that it has been called the Papa Bear Chair ever since.

A design master piece.
